Here we are. Back to the best excuse to hang around and watch nature unfold. Of course. Talking about duck seasons: 2025-26.
Skipped Oct season. (If you aren’t fearful of snake bite, you aren’t cognizant of the environment that you would insert yourself into). Besides that. The speckled trout were on a good bite.
It’s Sat, early afternoon. Only one party out. Weather’s gone warm and the wind, south. Talked to my guide around 10:00. He needed to vent a little.
They were still in the midst of a “skunk” day. But… earlier, they had, had a group of 10 blue bills swing behind his blind as they tried to work their way into the decoys. Rather than trust the low flying flock to complete the landing process in front of them they took the close shot behind the blind… and totally whiffed 💥… And. Then. Awhile later.
A group of 4 Widgeon. Astronomically high in the sky. Broke off of a10 bird flock. Wings, cupped and locked. They arced and swooped from hundreds of yards up.
In real time, it only took minutes. But. The descent involved numerous approaches towards their setup. Each move in their direction slowed time all the more. Until. Finally. The birds coasted into shotgun range. Hovering. Momentum-neutral as they decided exactly where they wanted land. And…all three. Clients, and guide included 💥
Whiffed again…
Don’t know if they’ve redeemed themselves as the guide hasn’t called in yet. When it comes to harvesting waterfowl, though. There is a very fine line between a bag of 2 or 10
Otherwise. This week we took out 8 groups who harvested 62 fowl. 52 of those were puddle ducks. And 28 of those were mallards. 7 species in all
We have a fair number of openings, so far, in Nov.. Join in on the adventure. Talk to your buddies and give me a call. Vic Berg. (252) 202-7842
